Catholic Sabha Barkur Ghatak along with the Wavar Aayog of St. Peter parish, Barkur organized the blessings of vehicles (Wahan Benjar) at Barkur church compound.
After the first mass, parishners who had already parked their vehicles in the church compound before the mass assembled in the Church portico.
Mr. Eric Soans welcomed everyone present and gave a brief introduction on the significance and importance of blessings vehicles.
Officers from Brahmavar Police Station, Mr. Harish and Mr. Satish spoke on the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers and not operating the mobile phone while in cars or on two-wheelers.
They also stressed on the importance of keeping vehicle documents such as the RC, licence and emission certificates updated.
Further information was provided on the hazards of drunken driving or operating vehicles after the consumption of drugs.
Barkur Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Philip Neri Aranha also spoke on the importance and necessity to observe rules and regulations while operating vehicles.
Mrs. Gracy Furtado proposed the vote of thanks to all present at the occasion.
After this, the parishners dispersed and stood next to their individual vehicles in the church compound.
Parish priest Philip Neri Aranha then went about blessing the vehicles by sprinkling Holy Water on them with parishners singing a hymn through out the blessing of the vehicles.
